Course content

City of Westminster College is offering a range of courses throughout the year, to give you a fresh start. These courses prepare you for the world of work, the opportunities of apprenticeships and for progression to an appropriate course in further education.

Outline of skills and knowledge

The programme is made up of various short courses including Personal and Social Development, Business Enterprise, Event Planning and Employability Skills at levels 1 and 2.

Some of the course units include:

  • Working as a team,
  • Developing and practicing leadership skills,
  • Learning with colleagues,
  • Communication and developing positive attitudes
  • Searching for a job, applying for a job, preparing for interview, interview skills.

What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed to?

These courses prepare you for the world of work, the opportunities of apprenticeships and for progression to an appropriate course in further education in a variety of subjects.

How will I learn?

Students will undertake practical and written assignments.

How will I be assessed?

You will produce a portfolio of work, with the support of your tutor. This will be internal and externally assessed. You will complete project work, for example a short film, and you may plan an event. There will be some written work and worksheets as well as presentations. You will go on trips and visits and sometimes work offsite as a group.

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

These courses are offered at Level 1 – if you have GCSEs D – G, or Level 2 – if you have GCSEs at D.

But whatever your qualifications, come and see us if you want a Fresh Start!

Applicants will be interviewed by a Fresh Start tutor, to assess their suitability for the course and to give you more information about our expectations of you.
