Will the course give me what I want?

Course content

This course will introduce you to production skills, methods and knowledge that are used in the media & communications industry. You will use this learning to develop media work in:

  • Pre-Production & Research Skills
  • Written and Presentation Skills
  • Music Video Production
  • Video Editing
  • Exploring Digital Photography
  • Understanding the Media Industries
  • Animation
  • Radio Production

You will be taught by experienced and dedicated lecturers in excellent purpose-built digital media facilities that have been awarded Skillset Academy for digital media status by the Learning & Skills Council.

We believe that it is important to support you so that you can pursue a future in creative media production, so the course will include helping you to improve and develop your communication skills with additional Functional Skills qualification study. You will receive group and individual tutorial support to keep you on track and if needed additional learning support is available. 

What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed to?

Progression onto a Level 3 qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma in Media (UAL) or Music Technology. Level 3 courses provide a transferrable skills base for preparation for university or working within the creative media industries.

How will I learn?

Practical and theory based classes will take place.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written exam, written assignments and through giving presentations.

How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc

6 – 8 hours per week of independent learning

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

To be a successful applicant to our programmes in Media and Sonic Arts you should have the following qualifications:

  • Be aged 16-19
  • Have minimum achievement 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English Language or equivalent Functional Skills Literacy qualification

Or

  • Level 1 qualification at Merit or above with Functional Skills literacy Level E3 or L1
  • You will take an initial assessment at the interview and will need to achieve a score of Level 1 in order to gain access to the course.

All courses are subject to a successful and positive reference from a previous tutor or employer.

Expected prior knowledge

You will be expected to demonstrate knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for TV and Film. In addition students are required to show a portfolio of moving image work, which they have significantly contributed towards the creation of

English

level

Grade D in English or equivalant.

Mathematics level

Grade D in Maths is desirable but not essential.

Fees shown are set against the current year (August 2016 to July 2017) and are subject to change when Government funding changes are announced.

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are free if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.

If you are  enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
