Course content

This course will introduce you to production skills, methods and knowledge that are used in the media & communications industry. You will use this learning to develop media work in:

Develop a range of skills and techniques, understanding, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful employment opportunities

Develop learners’ abilities in Creative Media Production through the knowledge and skills gained on completion of all units of the qualification

Explore the Creative Media industry and related specialist sectors such as Video, Audio, Animation and Digital Photograph

These skills and attributes, coupled with functional skills mapped to the qualifications, will form the basis of successful study at higher levels.

Progression to Level 2 Diploma in Creative Media.

How will I learn?

Practical and theory based classes will take place.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and presentations.

How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc

2 – 5 hours per week of independent learning

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

To be a successful applicant to our programmes in Media, Sound & Performing Arts you should have the following qualifications:

You will have an initial assessment of your literacy skills and will need to achieve a score of Entry Level 3 in order to gain access to the course.

You will also:

  • Be aged between 16-19
  • Have some achievement at GCSE grades E-G
  • Motivated in following a vocational programme of study
  • Demonstrate a commitment to working towards goals with your tutor
  • You will take an initial assessment at the interview and will need to achieve a score of Entry Level 3 in order to gain access to the course.


All courses are subject to a successful and positive reference from a previous tutor or employer.

Expected prior knowledge


You will be expected to demonstrate knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for TV and Film. In addition students are required to show a portfolio of moving image work, which they have significantly contributed towards the creation of.

English level

GCSE grade E- G

Mathematics level

GCSE grade E- G is desirable but not essential

Fees shown are set against the current year (August 2017 to July 2018) and are subject to change when Government funding changes are announced.

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are free if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.

If you are  enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
