Course content

This is a 1 year, Level 2 Performing Arts course and expects participation in all three main general areas of the performing arts: Dance, Drama & Singing, although there will be the opportunity to specialise

Areas of study include: Acting Skills, Dance Skills, Physical Theatre, Devising Plays, Dance Performance, Individual Performance Project, Musical Theatre, Business in the Performing Arts, Contemporary Dance and Community Theatre.

How will I learn?

You will learn through a variety of practical techniques classes, practical workshops, group seminars and lectures.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed continually through practical project work, coursework, written assignments and through giving presentations. Practical assessment will include some public performances but also in-class presentation and workshop assessment.  

How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc.

There will be additional rehearsals for performances and opportunity to attend performances outside of class time. You will also be expected to do coursework at home.

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

You will be aged between 16 and 19 at the start of the course and have:

  • Outstanding behaviour
  • Good level of written English
  • Confidence and willingness to perform in front of others
  • Excellent attendance and time-keeping
  • Ability to listen to the ideas of others
  • Willingness to contribute ideas
  • Able to learn lines and follow instructions
  • Creativity and imagination (nothing is impossible)
  • Be willing to take risks
  • Excellent research skills
  • Good organisation
  • The ability to have FUN!

To be a successful applicant to our programmes in Performing Arts you should have the following qualifications: ​

  • Have minimum achievement 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, including English Language or equivalent Functional Skills Literacy qualification ​

or ​

  • Level 1 Diploma in Performing Arts with Functional Skills literacy L1 ​or L2

All courses are subject to a successful and positive reference from a previous tutor or employer. ​

Expected prior knowledge

You will have some experience of the performing arts, whether through school / college or amateur dramatics. Your preference might be to sing, dance or act, but you will be open to learning about all three disciplines.

English level

GCSE Grade D or equivalent

Mathematics level


evel 2 Maths is desirable, but not essential.

Equipment and other costs

You will be required to have appropriate clothing for practical classes (which will be discussed at enrolment). It is also advisable to have a pair of jazz shoes / appropriate indoor shoes for practical work.

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are free if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.

If you are  enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
