What does the course include?

There are 8 units to take over the two years:

  • Individual Project
  • Construction Technology
  • Surveying, Measuring and Setting Out
  • Mathematics for Construction
  • Science and Materials
  • Construction Practice and Management
  • Construction Information (Drawing, Detailing and Specification)
  • Principales of Structural Design

What do I need to get on to the course?

The two-year part-time course is primarily designed for candidates already employed in the Construction and Built Environment industries.

Appropriate previous qualifications include:

  • BTEC Level 3 qualifications in Civil Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • A-level passes in Mathematics, Engineering or Science
  • Other level 3 qualifications in a related area are considered for experienced employees within the Construction and Built Environment sectors

The interview process

All candidates are interviewed by the programme manager. Qualification certificates and an employer reference should be made available at interview.

How is the course assessed?

Most assessment is through written coursework although there are some class-based tests and one group project. A typical unit may include two coursework assignments and one class-based open-book test.

Where does it lead?

Progression opportunities will exist in HND and/or Degree level courses within Civil Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
