Will the course give me what I want?

Course content

The course is intended for those that want to gain basic skills and knowledge in order to gain entry into the plumbing industry, they are also suitable for those that want to equip themselves with advanced plumbing knowledge and skills. These qualifications replace the existing 6129 Level 2/3 Certificate in Plumbing Studies (technical certificates).

The course is delivered in a realistic working environment at Paddington Green Campus.

What have students who have taken this course in the past progressed to?

There are a variety of pathways at L2/3 which correspond to domestic and commercial plumbing installation and maintenance practice. Progression to the NVQ Diploma 6189 is possible for those candidates who gain employment as a plumber.

How will I learn?

Through practical workshop and classroom theory based work.

How will I be assessed?

Multiple choice testing and practical assignments.

How much time should I be expected to spend on assignments, projects, field trips etc

All assessment and learning is done within timetabled hours.

City & Guilds 

What qualifications or skills do I need to show I have before I can enrol?

16-18 candidates need full level 2 qualifications in both Mathematics and English, e.g. GCSE A*-C, and a satisfactory school/college reference. Adult candidates wishing to change career or upskill are considered, acceptance depending on qualifications, employment history and the interview.

All candidates are interviewed by the course manager.

Expected prior knowledge

None

English level

Level 2 (GCSE Grade C) - for adults the emphasis will be on the initial assessment result rather than prior qualifications.

Mathematics level

Level 2 (GCSE Grade C) - for adults the emphasis will be on the initial assessment result rather than prior qualifications.

Equipment and other costs

All equipment is provided free to 16-18 year-olds. Adults will have to provide their own boots and overalls.​​​

Fees shown are set against the current year (August 2015 to July 2016) and are subject to change when Government funding changes are announced.

All our full time further education courses (Entry to Level 3) are free if you are 16-18 years old and meet UK residency requirements. Depending on your circumstances, you may also be eligible for financial support to help with other costs associated with your course such as free school meals and travel.

If you are  enrolling onto a Level 3 or 4 course and aged 19 or over, you may be required to pay fees depending on your residency status, educational background and personal circumstances.
